Tigray on the Brink: Immediate Action Demanded as Political Crisis and Humanitarian Catastrophe Deepen

The Alliance of Tigrians for National Redemption (ATRN), composed of three opposition parties in Tigray, issues an urgent call for decisive action to end the worsening humanitarian and political crisis in Tigray. We reaffirm our unwavering commitment to the rights of displaced persons and the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Tigray. At this pivotal moment, there can be no compromise on these fundamental issues.

Tigray finds itself at a dangerous crossroads.

The region is in the grip of a deepening humanitarian disaster, particularly among internally displaced persons (IDPs), alongside escalating political instability. This crisis is the straight result of TPLF’s complete monopoly on power and its consistent governance failures, the federal government’s evident reluctance to implement the Pretoria agreement effectively the Eritrean regime’s intervention in Tigray.

Currently, Tigray is effectively under a military rule enforced by the Debretsion-led TPLF faction, which continues to suppress dissent voices. This authoritarian grip has severely eroded internal trust, deepened the humanitarian emergency, and heightened political instability.

As a result of these actions, millions of Tigrayan IDPs remain stranded in overcrowded, unsanitary, and insecure camps and temporary shelters. Despite repeated promises, their safe, voluntary, and dignified return has not been ensured. They continue to suffer without access to adequate food, healthcare, or shelter as the rainy season looms—putting even more lives at risk.

In light of this dire situation, the Alliance of Tigrians for National Redemption, therefore calls for:

1. The immediate and unconditional withdrawal of non-ENDF forces from Tigrayan territory and the full restoration of Tigray’s territorial integrity.

2. The safe, voluntary, and dignified return of all internally displaced persons (IDPs) to their original homes, under international supervision.

3. The establishment of an inclusive governance that can effectively function in Tigray that represents the voices of all political actors and other stakeholders.
